Original paintings inspired by the gritty textures of city life.
As a kid, I grew up in the Old Harbor projects of South Boston. We lived on the 4th floor of a brick apartment, played in the streets, and hopped the train downtown to take adventures.
These textured experiences never left me and are a source of deep inspiration.
Cracked, stained concrete, old, worn brick, modern architecture, graffiti, torn stickers on a light pole, ripped, faded billboards in train stations. Everyone coming and going. It's messy and beautiful.
All of the grit of everyday life. Humans leaving their marks.
These are mine.

Hey - I'm Tobi.
I'm an independent, self-taught artist and designer in Santa Clarita, California.
I'm so glad you're here in this arty space!
Can I assume you're also an abstract lover? Even better if you're new to the world of abstract art. (rubs her hands together weird and maniacally). Really though, I am pretty into ideas & things that are nothing. They're everything.
//read more on that
As a long-time member of the Anxiety Club, and someone who spends entirely too much mental energy spinning in circles, I really find freedom to breathe in abstraction and in design. I tend to lean towards perfectionism and people-pleasing, often rendering myself stressed. This is where I come to be free. Just play and let loose.
Oh, and I talk a lot when I write.
Thank you for spending your time with me here. xo

Since you're here, it's safe to assume you are a creative, love design of all kinds, appreciate and are deeply inspired by the arts, you're a darling and supportive friend, or you're my mom.
In any respect, THANK YOU for spending your time and curiosities in my little corner of the interwebs. I am grateful for your interest.
My hope is that you'll (like me) get lost in the world of abstraction. Nothing here is defined. Questions and possibilities are welcomed and endless without some weird social rules to live by.
May you find this a cool place to feel all the feelings in whatever emotions are sparked by my art. A safe space without answers or expectations. A place to wonder and wander.

TAB//ART is abstraction.
Honest expressions of a GenX ginger's mind bomb.
But in paint.

I PAINT MY FEELINGS
Big, messy ones.
And I have a lot of them.
Each piece is a gritty exhale, of undefined inner spinnings and swirlings; wonderings and wanderings. 100 mile per hour thoughts and questions.
I have anxiety. I adore freedom.
And I am learning to let go.
These works are my release.
My take-time-to-breathe sessions.
Wild in-the-moment
ABSTRACT EXPRESSIONS
of pure and total freedom.
And I have a lot of them.

//thoughts
When I was a kid, I cut up my own clothes to make them for my dolls. I was inspired by Cyndi Lauper & the London Punk-Pop scene I saw in my magazines. I wanted a purple streak in my hair. I was going to become a fashion designer in Paris.
Flash forward to a corporate office job managing Sales Support at a label company much like The Office and a uterine cancer scare.
Nothing makes you question life faster. I've learn so many things. I'm not done.
WHAT ARE YOU MAKING?
We can't give up. We can rest. We can think and feel.
But we have to keep it moving.
We have to get back there. To what we wanted when we were kids.
There's magic there.
I'm doing my best to make something of this one precious life.
Imperfectly trying. xo Tobs

a sweet shot I took of a Converse window display in Santa Monica, CA.
If you're into fine art fruit bowls, there's disappointment in your fruiture.

As an artist & designer, I care about aesthetics. A LOT. This means I care about my clients, their brands, and the way they are perceived online and off.
I started Social Media Management after volunteering to run social for my son's high school football team. The graphic design and management skills, along with the ability to truly understand and speak a brand was the perfect match to all of my skills and their social engagement took off within the Santa Clarita Valley (and to the alum, friends, family, and fans beyond).
A local, highly respected Realtor (and former football mom - Go, Hart!) picked up on the growth fanfare within our social accounts and asked if I'd be interested in running hers. I absolutely said yes and the rest is history!

What the big guys are selling isn't the full picture. In fact, it's probably not even for you.
Check it: BIG VOICES WHO PEDDLE THE IDEA THAT YOU NEED TO POST 3X PER DAY AND DO REELS ON THE REG (all while sipping lattes in Paris, making 7 figures with just passive income and a dream? Eyeroll.)
That's true if you want to be them. #fairenough But let's also be real. They have giant teams with tentacles for days who work round the clock for them to appear super together to sell the dream. That's why we all drool, right?
BOMB: You are here. Trying to do it all. And the truth is: you can't.

A big tiny project!
FROM MY LOCKDOWN TO YOURS
THE 100 DAY PROJECT
#100tinytabstracts 1 tiny abstract a day for 100 days as part of the global #the100dayproject movement.
Abstract paintings created by me in a time of strange lockdown. Full of grunge, experiments, and color play. Beautifully framed pieces handcrafted by my rockstar wife in our home garage. Safe. Distant. Yet somehow connected. 100 tiny bits of pandemic feelings. |
