"The style of my art varies about as much as my personality; mostly playful, a little crazy, sometimes dark and melancholy, always seeking. My paintings favor the gritty side, my digital work flairs with a retro-happy kick, both have modern/industrial tones, and I like it that way." //Tobi
An artist in Southern California who laughs at her own jokes & makes art for cool kids.
"I'm Tobi.I'm all about abstraction, wondering, wandering, turning pop songs into musical theater jams, and funk-dancing around the kitchen in jumpsuits & platform Crocs. I paint barefoot at the kitchen table, sleep with a CPAP machine, and hate that plastic gets into the ocean. Mostly chill, but can pop off if the ginger flairs, I'm a bit Bob Ross meets Sam Kinison. It's a good time.
I believe in questions and am comfortable in the gray. I paint to express & design to play. My paintings & graphic compositions pair well and throw industrial-nod to growing up in the projects of South Boston; gritty city textures, mixes of clean & dirty, old & new, with mad, mad love for things you really can't explain. Ideal? A city loft cabin in the woods on a lake. I once drove away with a gas pump still attached to my car. My wife calls me Tob-livious. My son calls me weird. Life is good here." |
Tobi Beck is a Boston-born, California-raised creative who prefers gritty abstract textures in painting and a clean, modern, minimal approach to design. She primarily works with acrylic, mixed, and digital mediums. Her abstract compositions are together moody, textural, and playful, speaking to the relationship and connection between lines, shapes, balance, color, movement, and space.
Tobi studied visual communications at The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles and is self-taught in the fine art of painting, graphic design, collage, and illustration.
She and her wife, Gina, raise their nephew-son in the Santa Clarita Valley suburb of Southern California. She works out of her home cheered by 2 dogs, 3 cats, a sweet ever-flow of music, and gobs of thanksgiving.
